Carabao Cup: Newcastle United beat Liverpool in final
Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup in England for the first time in their history. The Magpies defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the final at Wembley. The goals for the winners were scored by Dan Burn in the 45th minute and the Swede Alexander Isak in the 52nd, while for Liverpool the Italian Federico Chiesa scored in injury time.

Newcastle wywalczyło pierwsze krajowe trofeum od... 1955 roku, kiedy zdobyło Puchar Anglii.
Liverpool pozostaje natomiast rekordzistą w liczbie triumfów w Pucharze Ligi, którego pierwsza edycja odbyła się w sezonie 1960/61 - zdobyli go 10 razy.
"The Reds" są wyraźnym liderem Premier League, ale w kilka dni temu odpadli w 1/8 finału Ligi Mistrzów.
Porażka w finale Pucharu Ligi to ich drugie z rzędu niepowodzenie. Wcześniej też zostali wyeliminowani z Pucharu Anglii.
