IFI KINOPOLIS 2025 - Polish Film Festival in Dublin
The festival opens with Chopin, A Sonata in Paris, a stirring account of the life of composer Fryderyk Chopin, one of Poland’s greatest artists. The screening will include a special introduction on Chopin from acclaimed pianist Hugh Tinney.
At the other end of the festival, the closing film Franz, an intriguing depiction of author Franz Kafka, comes from one of Polish cinema’s greatest current practitioners, Agnieszka Holland.
Other highlights include a rare screening of The Saragossa Manuscript to mark the centenary of the birth of Wojciech Has, a distinctive and unique voice in the country’s history of the medium.
In the festival’s compelling contemporary offering, Wojciech Smarzowski, one of European cinema’s best-kept secrets, turns his fierce gaze on coercive control and domestic violence in his new gripping drama Home Sweet Home.
Artur Wyrzykowski’s feature debut This Is Not Happening offers an extremely tense and gripping portrayal of parental love even in the face of the most horrific of circumstances.
Katarzyna Priwieziencew’s deceptively simple film Beautiful! follows six women at different stages of their lives as each strives for fulfilment; it is a funny, touching, and emotionally rewarding piece.
As ever, this selection reflects the best of what has emerged from the country’s remarkable film industry over the last year, showcasing the most estimable talent in front of and behind the camera. We look forward to welcoming both Irish audiences and those of the Polish diaspora to enjoy this year’s festival.
